Fire Service divers have recovered the body of a teenage boy 22 hours after he went missing in Chakaria, while an elderly man drowned in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.
The death toll in Cox’s Bazar has risen to 32, including 15 Rohingyas, as heavy rain, landslides, and flash floods continue to claim lives.
Sajib Das, 13, went missing Saturday afternoon after being swept away by the swollen Sonaichhari River in Chakaria’s Kaiyarbil area.
Chakaria Assistant Commissioner (land) Rupayan Deb said the body was handed over to the family after legal formalities on Sunday. The administration provided Tk25,000 in assistance.

Sajib was the son of Tufan Das of Kutubdia and had been living with his grandmother in Kaiyarbil. He was missing while playing with friends near the river, said local ward member Akhtar Ahmed.
Meanwhile, in Ramu’s Fakrikata village under Kochhopia union, 65‑year‑old Niranjan Das drowned Sunday evening after being swept away by flash floods near a culvert on the Gorjonia–Naikhyangchhari road.
He was a resident of Dochhari Purbo Dashpara and elder brother of local UP member Bimal Das.
Locals said Niranjan slipped while crossing a flooded road on his way home from work at a gold shop in Naikhyangchhari. The strong current carried him away. Fire Service and Civil Defence members recovered his body about an hour later.
Ramu Police Station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the recovery and said the body was handed over to relatives after legal procedures.
