Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has paid tribute to former state minister for health Mizanur Rahman Sinha.
The premier placed a floral wreath on the minister’s coffin at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 12pm on Sunday.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, and Parliament Secretary Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan also placed wreaths.
Earlier, the leaders recalled Sinha’s contributions in commemorative remarks. His son Tanvir Sinha expressed gratitude to the prime minister and the speaker for honoring his father with state recognition.
The coffin was brought to the South Plaza draped in black flags. Funeral prayers were then held, led by senior imam Abu Raihan of the parliament mosque.
Mizanur Rahman Sinha died Friday night while undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore. He was 83.
He was managing director of ACME Laboratories Ltd. He was elected lawmaker in 1996 and 2001 as a BNP candidate. He served as state minister for health and family welfare in Khaleda Zia’s cabinet in 2001 and also held posts as district BNP convener and central BNP treasurer.
