Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday inaugurated a daylong national workshop on higher education at Dhaka University’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

Organised by the University Grants Commission, the event titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: A Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence” aims to modernise, broaden and sustain the country’s higher education system.

UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed presided over the inaugural session, where Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and PM’s education adviser Mahdi Amin spoke as special guests.

Policymakers, vice‑chancellors, academics, diplomats, industry representatives and development partners joined the programme.

Five technical sessions will follow, focusing on graduate employability, soft skills, industry‑academia collaboration, global competitiveness, digital transformation, AI integration, teacher training, research excellence, governance and institutional reform.

UGC said recommendations from participants will help shape a policy roadmap to improve higher education quality and build globally competitive human resources.
