The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) has arrested five members of an inter-district robbery ring during a special operation in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
Police arrested them around 4:50pm on Monday near Modern Bikalpa Wooden Furniture shop on Dayaganj to Jatrabari Shahid Faruk Road.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Md Liton Jabbar, 52, Ismail Hossain Mamun, 55, Md Babul Babu, 45, Ayub Bhuiyan, 30, and Md Roman, 35.
During the raid, police recovered two pistols, two magazines, seven rounds of ammunition, 2.2 kg of explosives (gunpowder), one machete, and two motorcycles from their possession.
According to DB-Wari sources, an operational team conducted the raid based on a tip-off that gang members were gathering in front of the furniture shop to prepare for a robbery.
During primary interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had long been sourcing firearms, gunpowder, and bomb-making equipment from the border areas of Jessore district.
They reportedly manufactured hand bombs to sell to various terrorist groups in Dhaka and used these weapons to carry out robberies by inciting public terror.
The suspects were at the scene with the intent of committing a robbery at the time of their arrest. Two separate cases have been filed against them at Jatrabari Police Station, and legal proceedings are currently underway.
