Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended a ceremony at Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday to mark International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers 2026.

During the event, he presented honours to the family members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers who embraced martyrdom while serving in UN peacekeeping missions.

Tarique arrived at the venue around 10am. Earlier, in a message issued for the occasion, he highly commended the professionalism, skills, and humanitarian values demonstrated by Bangladeshi peacekeepers in their efforts to establish global peace.

Tarique noted that Bangladesh currently remains one of the top troop-contributing countries to United Nations missions.

He specifically highlighted the role and efficiency of Bangladeshi female peacekeepers in international peacekeeping operations, which have garnered global acclaim.

Tarique described their contribution as a shining example of women’s empowerment and the nation’s overall development.

Reflecting on how the peacekeepers have enhanced the country’s prestige on the international stage, he emphasised the necessity of building a safe and peaceful world founded on mutual respect, cooperation, and tolerance.
