Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held an impromptu meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday to hear the grievances of BCS (Health) cadre officials who have been long denied promotions.
While the officials had originally visited the Secretariat to seek an appointment to present their demands for administrative compensation and an end to their long-standing deprivation, they were granted an unexpected opportunity to meet Tarique directly and hand over an application.
During the informal discussion, the officials detailed the administrative disparities, promotion delays, and professional hardships they have faced over several years. They also drew the prime minister’s attention to the significant human impact of these issues.
Without formal protocol, the prime minister received their application with courtesy.
Atikur Rahman Rumon, the prime minister’s additional press secretary, stated that the prime minister listened to the officials attentively and provided assurances that the matter would be given serious consideration.
The application states that a total of 1,821 BCS (Health) cadre officials have been affected by these promotion-related problems for an extended period.
The officials claimed that they were denied promotions during the tenure of the previous interim government without valid reason, despite meeting all necessary seniority and qualification requirements.
This situation has reportedly led to structural imbalances within the administration, including instances where junior officers were promoted over their seniors.
