Renowned Bangladeshi cardiologist Chowdhury H Ahsan has been appointed Chair of the International Committee of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI).
The appointment was confirmed in an official letter dated 27 March, signed by SCAI President J Dawn Abbott. According to the letter, Ahsan’s two-year term is effective immediately and will continue through the 2028 SCAI Scientific Sessions.
Currently serving as Chief of Medicine and Program Director of Cardiology Fellowship at the University Medical Center, Las Vegas, Ahsan’s appointment is seen as a significant recognition of Bangladeshi expertise in the global medical community.
The letter also notes that Kwan Lee will serve as Co-Chair, with the possibility of assuming the chair position after Ahsan’s term concludes.
As Chair, Ahsan will be responsible for setting committee goals, coordinating activities, leading meetings, and aligning the committee’s work with SCAI’s broader strategies around the world.
The appointment is being regarded as a proud achievement for Bangladesh in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
