Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called for deeper engagement with the international community, focusing on partnerships in trade, investment, technology transfer, cultural and educational exchanges, and enhanced people-to-people connections.

Speaking at an iftar event hosted for diplomats, he emphasised that prosperity today is driven by cooperation and connectivity, not isolation.

This marked the Prime Minister’s first formal Ramadan gathering since taking office, held at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The event saw attendance from foreign diplomats, ambassadors, government ministers, and lawmakers, offering the Prime Minister an opportunity to exchange greetings with dignitaries during the holy month of Ramadan.

In his address, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman outlined his government’s plans to pursue deregulation, improve the ease of doing business, and foster a competitive environment that attracts responsible investment.

He reaffirmed the government’s goal of unlocking the full potential of both the people and the private sector.

“Our foreign policy will be pragmatic and sustainable, built on mutual trust, respect, and sovereignty,” the Prime Minister said, adding that Bangladesh is committed to both bilateral and multilateral partnerships and welcomes candid dialogue to strengthen collaboration.

The Prime Minister emphasised his government’s commitment to ensuring law and order, macroeconomic stability, and enhancing human resource development through training and capacity-building at all levels.

He outlined a vision to build a diversified, technology-driven, and sustainable economy that creates job opportunities, empowers women, and promotes shared prosperity.

Further, he discussed plans to strengthen technical and vocational education, introduce third languages into the national curriculum, and expand healthcare services in rural areas to ensure inclusive growth.

“We are dedicated to fostering enterprise and innovation through liberal economic policies and strengthening public-private partnerships as a cornerstone for growth,” he added.

On the issue of governance, Prime Minister Rahman assured that his government would maintain transparency, integrity, and accountability, with firm measures to combat corruption at all levels. He stated that democracy, in his view, is not only about elections but also about inclusion, dialogue, and upholding freedoms and rights.

The Prime Minister also addressed social welfare initiatives, including the introduction of Family Cards and Farmers’ Cards aimed at providing targeted economic support to women and agricultural communities.

Regarding climate change, Tarique Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to collaborating with global partners to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development, stressing the nation’s vulnerability to environmental challenges.

During the event, the Prime Minister introduced Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman as the country’s candidate for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 2026–2027 term.

Khalilur Rahman, along with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, also spoke at the gathering.
