A Dhaka court has ordered police to investigate a general diary (GD) filed by model and lawyer Peya Jannatul, who alleged receiving death threats, being followed and facing serious security concerns.
On Monday (27 July), Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin directed Banani Police Station to investigate the allegations and take necessary action.
Peya appeared before the court during the hearing on the investigation request.
Peya filed the GD on 8 July, claiming she had been subjected to threats after taking a legal and humanitarian stand in support of a woman’s pursuit of justice and safety.
She alleged receiving abusive messages on social media, threatening phone calls from unknown numbers and being followed by unidentified individuals for nearly three months.
She also said her family now feels unsafe and sought police protection.
In the GD, Peya stated that she has never had any direct or indirect political affiliation or motive.
