A Dhaka court has placed Additional Chief Engineer of the Power Development Board (PDB) Sabibur Rahman and his wife Farah Nusrat on a two-day remand in connection with the death of a child domestic help, Rikta Moni, in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail passed the order on Saturday, confirmed Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Shahnewaz Bappi of Dhanmondi Model Police Station sought a 10-day remand for the accused.

The defence, however, opposed the remand and prayed for bail.

After hearing both sides, the court granted a two-day remand.

According to police, the body of Rikta Moni was recovered early Friday morning from a building on Road 9/A in Dhanmondi.

She was later identified as a child domestic help.

Following the recovery, the victim’s father, Md Shahin, filed a murder case.

Police said investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing.

Rikta Moni hailed from Shalna in Sunamganj and was the second among five siblings.
Her father is a day labourer, family members said.
