Five state law officers, appointed to conduct cases on behalf of the state in Supreme Court, have resigned from their posts. They include additional attorney general Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiya, two deputy attorneys general, and two assistant attorneys general.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal confirmed the development on Monday, 7 September.
The other four law officers who resigned are Deputy Attorneys General Mamun Chowdhury and Sultana Akter Ruby, and Assistant Attorneys General Rohani Siddiqua and Projjal Chakma.
According to sources in the Attorney General’s Office, all five law officers resigned citing personal reasons.
The resignations follow a series of transitions in the state’s key legal offices. On 5 August 2024, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country in the face of a mass uprising.
On the following day, 6 August, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morshed resigned, followed by the resignation of the then Attorney General A. M. Amin Uddin on 7 August.
Subsequently, Md Asaduzzaman was appointed as the Attorney General on 8 August. On 13 August, Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiya, Mohammad Arshadur Rauf, and Mohammad Aneek Rushd Haque were appointed as Additional Attorneys General.
Later, changes were made to the office of the Attorney General, with Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal currently serving in the role. The resignations of the five law officers, including Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiya, took place from his office on Monday.
