A patient died by suicide after jumping from a building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Friday.
The deceased, Ria Khatun, 20, was the daughter of Latif Mallik of Badurdangi village in Pabna. The incident occurred around 4:30am.
Latif said Ria married expatriate Al Amin in Singapore after they developed a relationship over mobile phone. Al Amin returned to Bangladesh two and a half years ago but left again after two months. The couple had no children, which caused psychological distress for Ria.
He added that Ria also suffered from physical complications and had received treatment at Pabna Sadar Hospital and other facilities. She was admitted to DMCH three days ago.
“At dawn, relatives of another patient told me that my daughter was jumping from the building,” he said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in‑charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident, saying the patient jumped from the eighth floor of the new building.
As the family raised no complaint, the body was handed over without an autopsy.
