The adjourned inaugural session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad resumed on Monday afternoon with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.
The proceedings commenced at 3:30pm at the Parliament House. The first session of the 13th Parliament had originally begun on 12 March.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam informed that the session would feature a discussion on the thanksgiving motion moved on the president’s speech. Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches are scheduled to take part in the debate.
The agenda for the day also included a designated question-and-answer session for ministers, the raising of notices on matters of public importance, and brief discussions regarding those notices.
According to sources at the Parliament Secretariat, a total of 50 hours has been allocated for the discussion on the president’s speech. Following the schedule previously determined by the Business Advisory Committee, the current session is expected to continue until 30 April.
The president delivered his address to the Parliament House on 12 March. In accordance with parliamentary tradition, the early part of the first session involves a general discussion on the president’s speech, which concludes with the formal adoption of a thanksgiving motion.
