Squid Game star Park Hae-soo and his wife have welcomed their second child, a baby boy. The couple’s son was born on 23 August, with his agency BH Entertainment confirming that both mother and baby are healthy. The agency also said the 45-year-old actor is staying by his wife’s side at the hospital.
Park married his non-celebrity wife in January 2019, and they welcomed their first son in 2021. The new arrival makes them parents to two boys.
The actor announced the pregnancy during the fifth Blue Dragon Series Awards on 31 July, shortly after winning Best Actor for his performance in The Scarecrow. He revealed that the baby’s prenatal nickname was Chukbok-i, meaning “Blessing”, and said the child had brought him good fortune.
“Our son’s name is Chukbok-i, and he always brings blessings to me,” Park said during his acceptance speech.
He also addressed his wife, who was watching from home, saying, “My beloved wife is probably even more nervous than me right now watching from home — I love her. Daddy won an award. I love you too, our second blessing.”
After the ceremony, Park explained that he wanted to share the joyful news during his acceptance speech because he had been unable to tell everyone during the early stages of the pregnancy.
“This is a joyful and blessed event, so I wanted to share the news of my second pregnancy with many people. In the early stages of pregnancy, I was worried and couldn’t contact everyone. That’s why I wanted to mention Chukbok if I had the chance to give an acceptance speech,” he said.
Park recently starred in The Scarecrow, a mystery thriller centred on a serial murder investigation. He played former detective Kang Tae-joo, who returns to a case after new evidence and a confession emerge. The series, which ran for 12 episodes, also starred Lee Hee-joon and Kwak Sun-young.
The actor has several projects ahead, including Netflix’s Paper Man, as well as The Great Bang Ok-sook and Sad Tropics.
