The Border Security Force (BSF) has taken back 10 people, including a child, who were stranded at the Panchagarh border amid an alleged push-in attempt, four days after the incident.
The group was moved back into India from the zero line at the Burabari border in Panchagarh during the early hours of Monday. Locals said BSF switched off border lights in several phases at midnight before shifting the 10 people back into Indian territory. The lights were turned on again after they were taken away, they added.
The matter was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Sirajul Islam, commander of Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion.
Earlier on Friday morning, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push the 10 men, women and a child into Bangladesh. However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stopped their entry.
Later, flag meetings were held at company and battalion levels, but BSF initially refused to take them back.
On Sunday afternoon, at around 12pm, another attempt was made to push them into Bangladesh from the Indian side of the zero line, triggering fresh tension along the border.
Following the latest development, BSF eventually took the group back to India, ending the standoff.
BGB patrols and positions remain in place in the area. Security has also been tightened across other border points of the district to prevent infiltration attempts and push-ins.
