A suspected criminal known as Sohel, alias Pagla Sohel, 45, was apprehended with a firearm after being beaten by a mob in the capital’s Khilgaon area on Sunday.
The incident took place around 11:00 am in front of the West Nandipara water pump. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene to rescue him from the crowd and subsequently moved him to the hospital for medical attention.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Imran Sheikh of Khilgaon Police Station reported that he was informed of a man being lynched by a mob while on duty in the area.
After rescuing the suspect, police first took him to Mugda Hospital before transferring him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for further treatment.
During the incident, the local public recovered a pistol, a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition from Sohel’s possession.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khilgaon Police Station, confirmed the arrest, identifying Sohel as a notorious local criminal. According to the OC, Sohel is a named accused in at least eight cases filed with Khilgaon Police Station, involving charges of narcotics, mugging, and rape.
