Another person injured in a violent clash between two rival BNP factions in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna has died, bringing the death toll to two.
The deceased Munshur Khan, 60, succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 3pm on Tuesday.
Earlier, a woman named Chaina Khatun, 40, was shot dead on Monday morning during the same confrontation.
Both were supporters of the Islam Pramanik faction of the local BNP.
Sujanagar Police Officer-in-Charge Khayem Uddin confirmed the deaths and said that 12 people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The clashes erupted as the two BNP factions-one led by former president of Hatkhali union Chhatra Dal Rafiul Islam Raja, and anther by BNP activist of Manikhat union Islam Pramanik, fought to establish supremacy in Bhitbila village, Manikhat Union.
Tensions escalated after a scuffle between members of the groups on Sunday night.
On Monday morning, the Pashchim Para faction, led by the Islam Pramanik group, blocked members of the Purba Para faction, led by the Rafiul Islam Raja group, from entering the local market.
In retaliation, the Purba Para faction attacked with sticks and firearms, opening fire and damaging houses.
At least ten others from both sides were injured during the violence and are receiving treatment at local hospitals.
Locals said the clashes reflect long-standing rivalries between the two BNP-supporting groups over control of neighborhood markets and local influence.
Police and local authorities are maintaining a heightened presence in the area to prevent further violence.
