A total of 93.67 lakh animals were sacrificed across the country during Eid-ul-Adha, according to preliminary data from eight divisions under the Department of Livestock Services.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku- State Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Animal Resources shared the figures at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday.

The data shows that cattle and buffalo accounted for 48.64 lakh animals, while goats and sheep stood at 45.02 lakh. Other animals accounted for 1,027.

Division-wise data shows Dhaka recorded the highest number of sacrifices with 23.51 lakh animals. This included 13.69 lakh cattle and buffalo, 9.82 lakh goats and sheep, and 554 other animals.

Chattogram recorded 17.34 lakh animals, including 12.18 lakh cattle and buffalo, 5.14 lakh goats and sheep, and 361 other animals.

Rajshahi saw 23.42 lakh animals sacrificed. It included 7.96 lakh cattle and buffalo, 15.46 lakh goats and sheep, and 42 other animals.

Khulna recorded 8.46 lakh animals, including 2.83 lakh cattle and buffalo, 5.62 lakh goats and sheep, and 27 other animals.

Barishal recorded over 4 lakh animals, including 2.90 lakh cattle and buffalo and 1.09 lakh goats and sheep.

Mymensingh recorded 3.67 lakh animals, including 2.26 lakh cattle and buffalo, 1.41 lakh goats and sheep, and 23 other animals.

Rangpur recorded 10.50 lakh animals, including 4.96 lakh cattle and buffalo, 5.54 lakh goats and sheep, and 8 other animals.

Sylhet recorded 2.74 lakh animals, including 1.84 lakh cattle and buffalo and 90,268 goats and sheep, along with 12 other animals.

The data shows Dhaka division led in total sacrifices, followed by Rajshahi and Chattogram.

In cattle and buffalo sacrifice, Dhaka ranked first. Rajshahi led in goats and sheep sacrifice.

Field-level data shows that this year the demand for sacrificial animals stood at 1.01 crore while availability reached 1.23 crore.

The number of animals actually sacrificed was 93.67 lakh, leaving a surplus of 29.66 lakh animals.
