Postal ballots cast by expatriate voters for the 13th national election have started arriving in Bangladesh, with more than 3.26 lakh ballots already received in the country.
Brigadier General (Retd) Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the OCV-SDI project on expatriate voter registration, disclosed the information on Wednesday morning.
He said 7.66 lakh expatriate voters registered to vote through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ mobile app, and postal ballots were sent to their registered addresses.
Of them, 5.24 lakh expatriates received the ballots, while 4.72 lakh expatriates completed voting.
Salim Ahmad Khan said 4.31 lakh filled-in ballots were submitted to post offices or letter boxes in the respective countries. Of these, 3.26 lakh ballots have already arrived in Bangladesh. Another 41,178 postal ballots have been forwarded to the offices of the respective returning officers.
Meanwhile, within the country, authorities sent 6.62 lakh postal ballots to eligible voters as of Wednesday. Among them, 1.71 lakh voters received the ballots, while 1.32 lakh voters cast their votes.
According to the Election Commission’s postal ballot website, voters deposited 1.04 lakh completed ballots at post offices or mailboxes across the country.
