More than a hundred workers at a readymade garment factory in Gazipur’s Kaliakair fell ill on Thursday morning after consuming water. The incident took place around 10am at Dressmen Garments Ltd, situated in Chandra area of Kaliakair upazila.

Workers receiving treatment reported that they entered the factory in the morning to begin their shift.

Shortly after drinking the water provided by the factory, several workers on the fourth floor began to feel unwell, exhibiting symptoms such as dizziness and vomiting, along with other physical abnormalities. The illness subsequently spread to workers on other floors of the building.

The affected workers, the majority of whom are women, were rescued and transported to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex and various private hospitals in the vicinity.

Dr Sadia Tasnim Munmun, the Kaliakair Upazila Health and Family Planning officer, confirmed that many workers were brought to the health complex in an ill state starting around 10:30am. She noted that medical staff are providing them necessary treatment.
