HBO is bringing back its Emmy-winning comedy series Girls for a five-episode revival, reuniting creator Lena Dunham with Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke and Andrew Rannells nearly a decade after the show ended.

According to Variety, production is scheduled to begin in 2027, marking the return of the series that followed a group of young friends navigating relationships, careers and personal struggles in New York City.

Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah Horvath, while Williams returns as Marnie Michaels, Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro, Kirke as Jessa Johansson and Rannells as Elijah Krantz.

Executive producer Judd Apatow will also return.

Dunham said she wanted to revisit the characters only when she had a specific story to tell. The idea came to her around her 40th birthday, when she began imagining how their lives might have changed.

HBO has yet to reveal the revival’s plot or premiere date. The original series ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017, becoming a defining television portrayal of millennial life.
