An orchard owner was beaten to death for protesting the eating of lychees from his garden in Saltha, Faridpur.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda Circle) Mohammad Al Fahad confirmed the matter. The incident occurred at 6:30pm on Wednesday in the Phulbaria Bazar area of Ballabhdi Union. The owner has been identified as Azizur Rahman Molla, 65.
According to police and local sources, Shakil Munshi and Tushar Munshi were picking and eating lychees from Azizur’s orchard. His son, Akram Molla, witnessed the act and attempted to stop them.
In response, Shakil and Tushar attacked and beat Akram when he went to the market. Hearing the news, Azizur went to the market and confronted them. Shakil and Tushar, along with several others, allegedly beat him with bamboo sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Azizur and rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead around 9pm.
Al Fahad said, “Additional police have been deployed to bring the situation under control. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident, and legal proceedings are in progress.”
