The opposition staged a walkout from the parliamentary session on Sunday night, alleging that they had not been provided with copies of a bill.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:15pm on Sunday, during the final stages of the session as legislative business was being conducted according to the day’s agenda.
The walkout was triggered when Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, who was presiding at the time, announced that the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, would read a notice under Rule 300.
Immediately following this announcement, the opposition members exited the house.
Earlier in the proceedings, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed had discussed the past history of Jamaat-e-Islami in detail. Additionally, Fakhrul called upon Jamaat to tender an apology for its role during the 1971 Liberation War.
At around 10:55pm, Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman was observed speaking with journalists at the parliament entrance regarding the walkout.
