UEFA has handed the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals to two of European football’s most iconic stadiums, with the Munich Football Arena and Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou set to stage the competition’s showpiece matches.
The decision was confirmed by European football’s governing body on Tuesday, giving Camp Nou a return to the Champions League final stage after almost three decades.
The Barcelona stadium last hosted the final in 1999, when Manchester United produced one of the most dramatic comebacks in the competition’s history, scoring twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich 2-1.
Munich’s stadium, meanwhile, will stage the final in 2028. The venue, known as the Allianz Arena for sponsorship purposes, has already hosted Champions League finals in 2012 and 2025.
The biggest question surrounding the 2029 final will be whether Camp Nou is fully ready. Barcelona have been playing their home matches away from the stadium while a major redevelopment project, which began in 2023, continues.
The club returned to the stadium last November, but construction work remains unfinished. Capacity is currently restricted to around 62,000, with the third tier and roof still to be completed.
Once the redevelopment is finished, Camp Nou is expected to accommodate around 105,000 spectators. Barcelona have indicated that the full project should be completed by the end of 2027 or, at the latest, in 2028.
The 2027 Champions League final will take place at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.
UEFA also confirmed venues for its other major club competitions. The 2028 Women’s Champions League final will be played at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, while Cardiff’s National Stadium of Wales will host the 2029 final.
The 2028 Europa League final is scheduled for Bucharest’s National Arena, with Belgrade’s National Stadium Serbia selected for the 2029 showpiece.
The Conference League finals will be staged at Juventus Stadium in Turin in 2028 and Budapest’s Puskás Aréna in 2029.
UEFA also confirmed the next two Super Cup venues. Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena will host the 2027 edition, followed by Astana Arena in Kazakhstan in 2028.
