The body of Zamil Ahmed Limon, 27, a Bangladeshi PhD student at University of South Florida (USF) who was murdered in the United States, arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning.
An Emirates Airlines flight carrying the remains landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47am. The body was received by Shama Obaid, state minister for Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Limon’s parents and other family members.
Limon’s relatives immediately left the airport with the body for his ancestral home in Madarganj, Jamalpur. According to media reports, a Janaza (funeral prayer) will be held after Maghrib, followed by his burial.
Expressing his profound grief, Limon’s father, Johurul Haque, said he had raised his two sons with the utmost care and never subjected them to physical punishment.
“Only Allah knows what pain my son was put through,” he said, lamenting the tragic nature of his death.
Limon was a researcher in Geography, Environmental Science, and Policy at USF. He went missing on 16 April, and his body was later recovered from near the Howard Frankland Bridge on Friday morning.
The family said they have not yet received any specific information or leads regarding the murder.
Limon’s uncle noted that Limon had never shared any concerns regarding his roommates or any other trouble, and everything had seemed normal during their communications.
The bereaved family has called upon both the Bangladesh and United States governments to ensure justice for the killing.
