At least one person has been killed and 11 others injured after an earthquake damaged houses in Jhelum’s Pind Dadan Khan tehsil, officials said on Tuesday.
Rescue and damage assessment operations continued in the affected area.
According to Pakistan Today, the incident took place in the Jalalpur Sharif area of Pind Dadan Khan tehsil in Jhelum district.
Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Reza Ozgen said around 10 houses were badly damaged in the quake. He confirmed one death and said police, rescue teams and local administration reached the site immediately. He added that search and damage assessment work remained underway.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said in a press release that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:06pm. It said the quake had a depth of 12 kilometres. Its epicentre was located 58 kilometres southwest of Jhelum at latitude 32.59 north and longitude 73.23 east.
Authorities said emergency teams remained deployed in the area as assessment of damage continued.
