National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Amanullah has said the university is working relentlessly to ensure the restoration of educational quality through extensive reforms.
He noted that the natural development of education in the country had been hindered over the last 17 years due to the planned politicisation of educational institutions, which weakened the academic environment, administrative transparency, and academic culture.
The VC made these remarks as the chief guest during an interaction meeting with teachers held on Thursday at Shaheed Zia Degree College auditorium in Bagbari, Gabtali Upazila, Bogura, reads a press release.
Prof Amanullah observed that the current state of the historic Bagbari college reflects the reality of the national education system, where many promising institutions have fallen behind due to prolonged neglect and discrimination. He emphasised the need for collective efforts to overcome this stagnation.
Highlighting the historical significance of the location, Prof Amanullah noted that Bagbari is the birthplace of the statesman who provided courage and direction to the nation at the onset of the 1971 Great Liberation War.
He noted that the historical truth of former president Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of independence from the Kalurghat Radio Centre, which inspired the nation to join the liberation struggle—cannot be suppressed.
He added that the president later played a heroic role as the leader of the Z-Force, adding that it is a fundamental responsibility to present this impartial history to the new generation.
Regarding academic standards, the VC said building quality students requires skilled, honest, and dedicated teachers. He noted that teachers do not merely provide lessons but also build the foundation for the character, values, and leadership of future generations.
Consequently, the National University is implementing various reforms to ensure regular teacher training, involvement in research, and technology-based teaching.
“National University is not just an examining body; it is the largest platform for higher education in the country,” Prof Amanullah said.
He added that the university is working continuously to modernise the curriculum, expand digital education, strengthen academic discipline, and ensure administrative accountability to make students skilled and capable of global competition.
He further urged teachers, students, parents, and the administration to work in a coordinated manner, stating that quality education is one of the pillars of building a developed Bangladesh.
Following the meeting, Prof Amanullah participated in a tree-planting programme on the college campus as part of the university’s ongoing “Green Campus” and “One Student, One Tree” initiatives, where he planted both a forest and a fruit sapling.
The interaction meeting was presided over by the Acting Principal of Shaheed Zia Degree College, Md Abul Bashar. Other attendees included the Acting College Inspector of National University, Nazim Uddin Ahmed; Director of Physical Education and Culture, Mohammad Shafiul Karim; and Director of the Internal Audit Department, Md Jasim Uddin.
Principals, teachers, and educationists from various colleges in the Bogura region were also present to discuss the improvement of college education standards, the dynamism of academic activities, and the creation of a teacher-student friendly environment.
