Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said the National University has launched a major initiative to reform its curriculum, aiming to prioritise practical and job-oriented education.
“The reform will mark an important milestone in the university’s history,” he said while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of a three-day Curriculum Development Workshop at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
He said most students of the National University come from middle- and lower-middle-income families and often struggle to find jobs due to limited technical skills and weak English proficiency under the traditional syllabus.
“The curriculum has now been modernised and made more practical by introducing technical courses to prepare students for global competition,” he said.
He also said the university was established in 1992 under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to address structural challenges in higher education management.
Presiding over the event, National University Vice-Chancellor ASM Amanullah said the country still lags behind many nations due to inadequate investment in education after independence.
“Although delayed, now is the time to prioritise education,” he said.
Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque and Information and Communication Technology Division Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rafiq, among others, were present.
