The nomination process for the late BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Bogura-7 has been officially concluded, election officials announced on Saturday.
The announcement came after her nomination papers were scrutinised earlier in the day.
Md Tofiqur Rahman, returning officer for Bogura district, said that due to Khaleda Zia’s death, no further action could be taken regarding her nomination, and the matter has been formally closed.
In the same constituency, one nomination was rejected. Ansar Ali of the Bangladesh Muslim League was disqualified because his party nomination papers lacked the signatures of the party president and secretary general.
The valid candidates in Bogura-7 are BNP’s Morshed Milton, Golam Rabbani of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Shafiqul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Khaleda Zia, former prime minister and BNP chairperson, passed away on 30 December at Evercare Hospital. She was buried the following day with state honours beside her husband, former president Ziaur Rahman.
