No shortage of vaccines, state minister assures

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit has assured that there will be no shortage of vaccines as the country rolls out a special measles vaccination campaign.

Speaking at the inauguration of the programme at Mirzapur Union Parishad in Gazipur on Sunday morning, Muhit emphasised that the government is acting swiftly and scientifically to ensure smooth implementation.

He said, “Wherever there are shortages, we are taking responsibility and addressing them. The programme has started and will continue. We will not leave any gaps.”

“We have a special expert committee on immunization. Through surveillance, we collect information from across the country every day,” he added.

He also said, “Based on that information, we identify which upazilas are most affected. Our expert committee advises us, and organizations like UNICEF and the World Health Organisation are assisting. Every step of this programme is being implemented on the basis of data so that no mistakes occur.”

He said, “Another international organisation supporting us in this campaign is Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. They have provided full cooperation, and I want to express my gratitude to them.”

“Within just 18 hours’ notice, the district administration, police, civil surgeons, and health officials began work. Our government is taking steps very quickly,” he added.

The minister further said, “If we can ensure vaccination for all children in the country, we will be safe. Our children will remain healthy and secure.”

The campaign, which began Sunday, will continue until 2 May in Gazipur district, aiming to vaccinate 28,000 children. He announced the campaign will soon begin in Dhaka City Corporation, Mymensingh City Corporation, and Barishal City Corporation.
