Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee has urged government employees to serve the public diligently and refrain from any form of harassment while delivering official services.
Speaking at a meeting with district officials at the Lakshmipur Circuit House on Friday, the minister emphasised that the public has high expectations from the current government.
“To meet these expectations, everyone must perform their duties responsibly. Government employees must work for public welfare and uphold the country’s reputation,” he said.
He called for the establishment of a citizen-friendly administration guided by rules and regulations.
The minister further stated that all tenders in government departments must follow proper procedures, with no special favors granted to anyone. He also appealed to the police administration to maintain law and order without leniency.
Addressing questions from reporters, the minister highlighted plans for the development of historically neglected areas in Lakshmipur.
He noted that chronic waterlogging has long plagued the district and announced that the Bhulua River and Rahmatkhali Canal will be dredged to alleviate the problem.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already approved an 180-day programme for canal and pond excavation. Soon, dredging and renovation works will begin nationwide,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Tarek, Additional Director of Local Government Md. Jasim Uddin, and other departmental officials.
