Police detained eight leaders and activists of the Jubo League, youth wing of the Awami League, during a flash procession in Chattogram city on Friday morning.
The arrests took place around 6am in front of the Rifle Club under Kotwali Police Station.
The flash procession, organised by the Jubo League Chattogram metropolitan unit, was dispersed when police quickly arrived on the scene.
Authorities said the participants were carrying banners of banned Jubo League and Chhatra League.
The arrested individuals are Md Tushar, 20, Abdullah Al Noman, 20, Md Rakib, 19, Ibrahim Hossain Babu, 22, Md Sharif Hossain Munna, 20, Syed Hamid Miazi, 22, Md Masudur Rahman, 24, and Md Riaz Hossain, 20. All are residents of different areas across Chattogram city.
Kotwali Police Officer-in-Charge Aftab Uddin said the action was taken immediately to prevent the unauthorised procession and that legal proceedings against the detained leaders are underway.
