Road Transport, Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Monday assured that there is no shortage of fuel in the country and prices will remain stable. He said ample supplies are being delivered to all petrol pumps, dismissing any concerns over scarcity.
The minister made the remarks while inspecting Mohakhali Bus Terminal in Dhaka and inaugurating a new toilet facility for women at the terminal.
“Fuel has been supplied to all pumps since last night. There is no shortage, so prices will not increase,” he said.
Sheikh Robiul Alam added that this year’s Eid travel will be safe and smooth.
“There is no scope for charging extra fares. Operators must follow the government-approved rates. Action will be taken if anyone overcharges,” he warned.
He also noted that in many places, fares are being charged below the approved rates, and no excessive fares have been reported.
The minister stressed that vehicles without fitness certificates will not be allowed on the roads.
“If complaints are verified, strict action will be taken against the vehicle and its owner,” he said.
Regarding public transport, he confirmed that adequate fuel has been supplied for long-distance buses.
“There will be no disruption during the Eid travel rush. Operators cannot use fuel scarcity as an excuse to increase fares,” he farther said.
During the terminal visit, the minister observed orderly operations.
“Buses are entering and leaving the terminal according to schedule. Passengers are being transported efficiently, and no one is charging more than the fixed fares,” he said.
State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Habibur Rashid and Dhaka North City Corporation administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan were also present during the inspection.
