The government has announced the names of nine distinguished individuals and one musical band for the Ekushey Padak 2026 in recognition of their significant contributions to various fields.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared the information during a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
This year’s recipients of the country’s second-highest civilian award include the legendary late musician Ayub Bachchu and the renowned film actress Farida Akhter Babita.
The list of laureates features Farida Akhter Babita for her contribution to film, Professor Md Abdus Satter for fine arts, and Marina Tabassum for architecture. Both Ayub Bachchu and the musical band Warfaze have been selected for their contributions to music.
Other awardees include Orthi Ahmed for dance, Islam Uddin Palakar for drama, Shafique Rehman for journalism, Professor Dr Mahbubul Alam Majumder for education, and Tejas Halder Josh for sculpture.
Earlier, the government invited nominations for the Ekushey Padak 2026 in late July last year. The authorities had set a deadline for the submission of these nominations by 30 October of the same year.
