Two brothers were killed and a child injured after a dump truck hit them on the Nilphamari–Saidpur highway on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around midnight near Sheikh Jame Mosque at Nilphamari Sadar upazila.
The deceased has been identified as Sihab Hossain, 19, and his younger brother Soad Hossain, 6, sons of Toriqul Islam Babu of Dolapara village.
The injured pedestrian, Mohammad Hossain, 10, from the same area, was rescued and admitted to Nilphamari General Hospital.
According to police and local sources, a dump truck travelling from Saidpur to Nilphamari hit the three pedestrians from behind and ran over the two brothers, killing them on the spot. The vehicle fled immediately after the crash.
Officer-in-Charge of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station Jillur Rahman said police recovered the bodies and efforts are underway to apprehend the driver.
