A Nigerian Air Force aircraft carrying 32 people crashed on Monday at Igbokoda in southwestern Nigeria’s Ondo state, military officials and the country’s aviation minister confirmed.

Air Force spokesman Ehimen Ejodame said the aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin City in southern Nigeria to Lagos, the country’s economic hub, when it crashed, reports AFP.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said on X that preliminary information indicated 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board. He also confirmed that the aircraft’s wreckage had been found near a naval base.

Search and rescue operations were launched following the crash in co-ordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies, Ejodame said.

Video footage circulating on social media showed a small crowd gathered near a river as rescuers searched the surrounding area by boat.
