A Dhaka court on Sunday granted conditional bail to Major General (retd) Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, five days after his arrest in a case filed over an attack, vandalism, and looting at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s “Brownfish” studio in the capital’s ECB Chattar area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order following a hearing.
Earlier on 30 September, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) arrested Mohiuddin from the capital’s Segunbagicha area.
With his arrest, the total number of arrests in the case reached seven.
According to the case documents, a group of armed individuals launched an attack on the housing project of New Gini Properties at South Manikdi on the night of 26 September.
The assailants fired shots and entered the project area carrying cleavers (ramda), daggers, and sticks, before barging into Salman Muqtadir’s studio to vandalise and loot it.
The complaint alleged that cash, laptops, computers, cameras, and professional media equipment were looted, while several vehicles were vandalised. Site Engineer Md Parvez and several others sustained injuries during the attack.
The First Information Report (FIR) recorded damages worth approximately Tk1,42,80,000 to the property and theft of goods valued at Tk1,50,43,000.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of New Gini Properties, filed the case as plaintiff with Cantonment Police Station against 13 named individuals and 150 to 200 unidentified persons.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Subrata Debnath is currently serving as the investigating officer of the case.
Earlier, the court granted a three-day remand for three other accused in the case – Mamun, Aslam, and Munna – against a five-day remand prayer.
