Nepali actor Pramod Agrahari is stepping beyond national borders with his first Bangladeshi film, ‘Haangor’, an upcoming Eid al-Fitr release directed by Tanmoy Surjo. The film highlights a growing trend in Dhallywood towards cross-border collaborations and the casting of South Asian actors with strong regional appeal.
In Haangor, Agrahari takes on the central role, marking his debut in Bangladeshi cinema after more than a decade in the Nepali film industry.
He launched his acting career with Uma in 2013 and has since appeared in over two dozen films. Although he began as a leading man, he later earned widespread acclaim for portraying complex antagonists and is now regarded as one of Nepal’s most prominent screen villains. His notable works include ‘White Sun’, ‘Gangster Blues’, ‘Chitra’, ‘Adrishya’, ‘Pitambar’ and ‘Agastya Chapter 1’.
The film’s first-look teaser, released on Thursday night, introduces Agrahari in an intense, action-oriented avatar. Director Tanmoy Surjo draws inspiration from the lives of Bangladesh’s coastal communities, centring the story on people who face constant hardship and exploitation and who often find themselves pushed into crime by powerful forces.
Surjo said he first considered Agrahari for the role during a visit to Nepal several years ago. After meeting the actor on a film set, he immediately felt Agrahari matched the character he had in mind for Haangor. Once Surjo shared the story, Agrahari agreed to join the project and later dedicated time to learning Bangla before filming began. The team completed production last year.
Reflecting on the experience, Agrahari described working in Bangladesh as rewarding and said he hopes to continue collaborating with Dhallywood filmmakers while pursuing projects in Nepal. The producers also plan to release the film in Nepal, a prospect that particularly excites the actor.
While the team aims for an Eid al-Fitr release, Surjo acknowledged that securing enough theatre slots during the festive season remains challenging due to competition from multiple releases.
Alongside Agrahari, Haangor stars Tahmina Othoi, Intekhap Dinar, Dipa Khandakar, A K Azad Shetu, Shariful and Mahfuz Munna in key roles. Surjo also wrote the screenplay, and Bigshot Creation is producing the film.
