A court in Dinajpur has sent five people, including a central leader of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), to jail in a case filed over abduction of a man and a ransom demand of Tk12 lakh.
The court passed the order after rejecting their bail petitions when they were produced before it on Tuesday.
The accused are Arif Moon, central assistant organising secretary of Jubo Shakti; Hasin Ishraq Mim; Azmir Hossain alias Prem; Sajedul Minhaj; and Mohammad Hridoy.
According to the case documents, Abdus Samad, a resident of Khoshalpur in Sadar upazila, was forcibly abducted from the Gopalganj Five‑Mile area on Sunday night.
Following the incident, his son Md Mamun lodged a case at Kotwali Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, police conducted a drive on Monday afternoon, rescuing Samad from Gor‑e‑Shahid Boro Maidan and detaining three individuals.
Two more suspects were subsequently detained when they reportedly attempted to snatch the accused while they were being escorted to the police station.
Nur Nabi, officer‑in‑charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the development.
However, NCP leader Moon denied the abduction allegations, claiming they were victims of a conspiracy orchestrated by a major political party and said they were not involved in any abduction or extortion.
Following the initial detentions on Monday night, NCP activists surrounded the police station in protest, but the police did not release the suspects.
