A man was killed and three others, including his two children, were injured after a boundary wall collapsed amid heavy rainfall at a colony in Rahman Nagar Residential Area of Chattogram on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 35, a fish trader. The injured were identified as his mother-in-law Monjila Begum, 60, wife of Chan Mia Sheikh, and his two children- Sohan Islam, 4, and Saifa Akter, 2.
Shafiqul Islam’s wife remained unharmed as she was at her workplace at a garment factory at the time.
Chan Mia Sheikh confirmed the incident, saying he was at home when the wall collapsed.
Locals said the family had moved into the new house just one month and seven days ago.
The incident took place around 3:30pm at Block B of Rahman Nagar Residential Area, police said.
Panchlaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahedul Islam confirmed the death and said the injured family members were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.
“Four people were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, and one of them was declared dead,” he said.
Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel conducted rescue operations at the scene following the collapse.
The wife of Mohaimeen, owner of the building whose boundary wall collapsed, said the wall was constructed around 43 years ago and no such accident had taken place before.
