A young man was stabbed to death in the capital’s Shah Ali area early Monday. Police have detained one suspect in connection with the incident, which occurred around 12:30am.
The victim, Mehedi Hasan, 25, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died during treatment at about 6:15am.
Police said Mehedi was originally from Sahebganj village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur. He had been living in Barobagh under Mirpur Police Station and worked in signboard making.
Shah Ali Police Station Sub‑inspector Atowar Rahman said the incident took place in front of Hazrat Shah Ali Women’s Degree College. One person was detained near the college at midnight with a knife. Shortly afterward, police learned the suspect had stabbed a youth nearby, who was rushed to hospital and later died.
Authorities said it is not yet clear whether the incident was linked to a mugging or previous enmity. A detailed investigation is underway.
