National Bank PLC has launched remittance operations with Malta-based electronic money institution dLocal Limited to expand cross-border inflows and speed up transfers, the bank said at a ceremony in Dhaka on 19 February.

The launch took place at the bank’s head office in presence of senior officials, according to information shared by National Bank.

Managing Director Adil Chowdhury inaugurated the programme by cutting a ribbon at the event.

dLocal Treasury Manager and APAC Lead Bhaskar Manna, Senior Treasurer APAC Sanjay Sahtani, Treasurer APAC Zainab Zahid, Payouts Associate APAC Sagar Gangashetty, Payouts Associate APAC HM Baki Billah and Country Manager for Bangladesh APAC Shaion Tripura joined virtually.

Among National Bank officials present were Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Syed Zubayer Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director Imran Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director in-charge Kazi Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director in-charge Md Abdur Rahim, Deputy Managing Director in-charge Md Meshkat-Ul-Anwer Khan and Head of Foreign Remittance Division Milton Roy, along with other divisional heads.

Foreign remittance is vital not only for business growth but also for strengthening Bangladesh’s national economy, said Managing Director Adil Chowdhury at the event.

He described the launch as a step towards bringing remittance services closer to the public and improving financial inclusion and convenience.
