The government has decided to sell NASSA Group’s assets to settle pending wages and service benefits of the company’s workers following a court directive, Labour and Employment Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain said on Sunday.

Speaking at the 15th meeting of the Advisers’ Council Committee on ‘Review of labour and business condition of industrial units at Beximco Industrial Park’ at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Sakhawat Hossain said the court-appointed administrators have already sold some of NASSA Group’s shares and disbursed Tk76crore to the workers.

He added that the group has made down payments to eight banks under the direction of Bangladesh Bank.

For the remaining 15 banks and the outstanding worker dues, the court has instructed that certain NASSA Group assets be sold through open competitive bidding to ensure full settlement.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Labour and Employment Ministry, Bangladesh Bank, Industrial Police, Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, and Law, the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, court-appointed administrators of NASSA Group, company representatives, and officials from several commercial banks.
