Three members of a family were injured, one of them critically, after an air conditioner explosion rocked a residence in Narinda of old Dhaka.
The injured were identified as Mukhtar Bepari, 55, his wife Selina Begum, 46, and their son Selim Bepari, 25.
They were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on the night of the incident.
National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Emergency Department Resident Surgeon Shaon Bin Rahman said the son’s condition is extremely critical.
He said Selim Bepari sustained 100 per cent burns, including severe injuries to his respiratory tract.
Mukhtar Bepari suffered 22 per cent burns, while Selina Begum sustained 20 per cent burns, he said.
Cousin Abir Hossain said the family lived as tenants on the third floor of the building in Narinda.
He said Mukhtar Bepari owns a shop in Dholaipar dealing in air conditioner and refrigerator compressors and had stored some equipment in the flat.
The blast left the entire apartment badly damaged, though the exact cause of the explosion has yet to be confirmed.
