Students in Naogaon held a human chain on Saturday to express their solidarity with the ongoing student movements in India.
The hour-long programme commenced at 11am in front of the main gate of the Naogaon Government Polytechnic Institute.
The event was presided over by Rahad Hasan Akash, a student of the institute.
During the demonstration, participants chanted various slogans, including “Accept students’ just demands,” “Ensure students’ safety,” “Stop violence against students,” and “Justice for Indian Students”.
They also displayed placards with messages such as “We stand with Indian Students” and “Solidarity from Polytechnic students to Indian protesters”.
Addressing the gathering, Rahad clarified that the protest was not directed against any specific country. ” We have gathered here today to express solidarity with students’ just rights, a transparent education system, and the right to peaceful expression,” he said.
He strongly condemned the use of force against the student movement in India instead of meeting their logical demands.
He further demanded the immediate release of detained students and compensation for those injured during the protests.
Turning his attention to domestic issues, the student leader urged the Bangladesh government to take swift action in reforming existing corruption and irregularities within the country’s education system.
He emphasised the need for an educational framework where merit, hard work, and honesty are properly evaluated.
Rahad also remarked that a “spring” against autocracy has begun across the subcontinent, viewing the current movements as a continuation of that trend.
He concluded by expressing full support and solidarity with the “logical movement” of their Indian counterparts.
