Police have arrested four people on suspicion of stealing case documents from the Naogaon District and Sessions Judge Court.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariqul Islam confirmed the matter on Saturday.
The arrestees are SM Akash, 26, Palash, a peon at Joint District and Sessions Judge Court-2, and his brother Arif, a peon at Sapahar Sub Judge Court; and Sabuj, 40.
SP Tariqul said, “On Thursday the court informed me about the loss of important case documents. Later, an unknown caller demanded Tk30,000 in extortion from a court employee in exchange for returning the files.”
He added that a special team, including members of the district Detective Branch, was formed following the complaint. They initially conducted a raid in Bagmara, Rajshahi.
Later, they identified the key suspect and arrested Akash. Then Akash produced the case documents from a haystack. He disclosed the names of his accomplices, who were arrested.
SP Tariqul said, “This was an important case. The verdict was due to be announced within days. The motive behind the theft is under investigation. Cases have been filed against all of them, and they will be sent to jail through the court.”
