NCP has pledged to establish a Bangladesh rooted in equality and human dignity, aligning with the aspirations of both the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising.
Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP, made these remarks on Thursday morning while speaking to journalists after paying floral tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War on the occasion of Independence and National Day.
“We want to build a Bangladesh of equality and human dignity based on the aspirations of the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising,” Nahid stated, adding that the party is currently dedicated to this objective.
Reflecting on the nation’s struggle, he paid solemn tribute to those who fought and sacrificed their lives, including the martyrs and the ‘Biranganas’. He observed that many of the core aspirations of independence remain unfulfilled, which forced the new generation to once again sacrifice their lives and shed blood. He expressed his hope that such dire circumstances would not need to be repeated in the future.
In a separate tribute at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, NCP’s Akhtar Hossain and Member of Parliament for the Rangpur-4 constituency, addressed the media regarding the nation’s democratic journey.
He remarked that although the 1971 Liberation War was fought for the sake of human dignity, social justice, and equity, the country saw the establishment of autocracy over the subsequent half-century. He noted that the people of Bangladesh have repeatedly sacrificed their lives to resist such autocratic rule.
Drawing a parallel between historical milestones, he stated that the public united against autocracy and misrule in 2024 just as they had in 1971, achieving a similar victory.
“The year 1947 defined our territorial map, 1971 brought us independence, and through 2024, we have gained the opportunity to move towards a ‘New Bangladesh’,” Akhtar said. He concluded by affirming the party’s commitment to protecting a democratic Bangladesh while honouring the martyrs.
