Renowned presenter, producer and director Hanif Sanket has voiced concern over the spread of fake photocards bearing his image on Facebook. The photocards, which mimic his presentation style, have been circulating widely, prompting Sanket to clarify that he is not associated with them in any way.
In a statement, he emphasised the importance of verifying information before sharing. “Posting or circulating content on social media without checking its authenticity is not just careless, it is illegal,” he said. “It is disheartening to see well-meaning followers engaging with these photocards, liking and commenting without verifying the facts.”
Hanif Sanket, who has spent over four decades promoting cultural awareness and social responsibility in Bangladesh, reaffirmed his commitment to neutrality and independence. “All my authentic statements and content are published only through my verified platforms and recognised media,” he explained.
Addressing the broader risks of technology misuse, he urged the public to exercise caution. “In this digital age, we must be vigilant against misinformation. Avoid trusting content from unverified or unfamiliar sources, and do not spread misleading information,” he added.
The controversy comes after a photocard featuring his image included the message, “Sheikh Hasina is not a fascist, Sheikh Hasina is an artist who built Bangladesh.” Sanket clarified unequivocally that the statement does not reflect his views.
