Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has impressed with his raw pace since the start of his international career, but inconsistency in white-ball cricket remains a concern. While Rana has been more reliable in Tests, his performance in the ongoing ODI series against Pakistan has been mixed. After a strong showing in the first ODI, he struggled to make an impact in the second match.
Former cricketer and current coach Talha Zubair has highlighted specific areas where Rana can refine his skills to achieve consistent success. According to Talha, Rana relies heavily on speed but needs to combine it with swing to become a more dangerous bowler in limited-overs cricket.
Speaking at Mirpur on Saturday, Talha said: “Nahid Rana depends mostly on his pace and not on swing. If he can work on adding swing to his pace, I believe he will become a much more threatening bowler for any batting line-up.”
Talha also stressed that experience alone is not enough: “Experience does not always help if you cannot execute on the field. If you apply your experience consistently, you can earn respect from opposition batters. That is what our bowling unit needs to focus on.”
Commenting on the senior fast bowlers, Talha added: “Considering Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, we are in a strong position. They have played more matches and taken more wickets. Apart from Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, I don’t see anyone else who matches their record. Haris Rauf has played, but he hasn’t taken as many wickets as Mustafizur or Taskin.”
