Political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas will be taken to Singapore Sunday for advanced medical treatment.

Mirza Abbas’s personal secretary, Mizanur Rahman Sohel, said that he will be flown to Singapore by an air ambulance at 11:30am Sunday.

His wife Afroza Abbas, also president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and his eldest son Mirza Yasir Abbas will accompany him on the trip.

Mirza Abbas underwent brain surgery on Friday while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital Dhaka.

Following the operation, doctors of the medical board placed him under 72-hour intensive observation.

BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam said a CT scan of Mirza Abbas’s brain conducted on Saturday morning showed encouraging results.

“A CT scan of Mirza Abbas was carried out this morning and the report is good,” he said, adding that doctors of the medical board are monitoring him round the clock and keeping him under close observation.

Mirza Abbas lost consciousness on Thursday evening while drinking water during iftar.

As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Evercare Hospital later that night where a CT scan detected complications in his brain.

Doctors then convened a virtual medical board and decided to perform surgery after reviewing his condition.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been regularly inquiring about the senior BNP leader’s health and visited Evercare Hospital on Friday afternoon.

Several national leaders also visited the hospital to check on Mirza Abbas’s condition, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
